One NZ Plate of Origin Manawatū 2025 brings together talented local chefs and cooks passionate about representing our region's culinary heritage.

This exciting event showcases the extraordinary culinary talents and flavours of this vibrant area, known for its fertile farmland, growing food scene, and diverse cultural influences.

The competition aims to highlight regional ingredients, cooking techniques, and dishes that make Manawatū a culinary destination worth exploring. It brings together locals and visitors alike, inviting them to indulge in the exquisite flavours of the region while supporting our local hospitality businesses.

Celebrating the region's rich bounty of local products and producers with a strong emphasis on farm-to-table cooking, chefs participating in the competition will draw inspiration from the region's cultural diversity. Their dishes will showcase Manawatū's many influences, creating a delightful fusion of tastes that reflects our community's unique character.

One NZ's partnership with this event demonstrates their commitment to supporting local communities and showcasing the best of New Zealand's talent. We look forward to an unforgettable culinary experience that will further establish Manawatū as a premier food destination in 2025.

The competition finalists will be assessed by a panel of two visiting judges.

The competition winners will be announced at the One NZ Plate of Origin Celebration on 19th May 2025.

People’s Choice Award

This is a chance to recognise and celebrate the region's food, talent and eateries.

  • Vote for your favourite dish and be in to win a $300.00 Air New Zealand Travel Voucher.

  • Voting opens 1 April 2025 through to 30 April 2025.

  • Only one vote per dish per diner per visit.

  • Proof of purchase will be required - keep your receipt. 

  • The winner will be drawn from all entries received and announced on 19th May 2025.

The Categories:

  • Full-service dining establishments offering meals and beverages with table service, focusing on culinary expertise, presentation, and a more structured dining experience. Restaurants may specialise in specific cuisines or cooking styles.

  • Casual eateries specialising in coffee, tea, light meals, and casual dining, often featuring a relaxed atmosphere ideal for quick bites and longer stays with counter service. They typically serve breakfast, brunch, light lunches, and baked goods.

  • Establishments primarily focused on serving alcoholic beverages with a casual and often vibrant atmosphere. Bars typically offer a variety of drinks, including cocktails, beer, and wine. They may provide light snacks, tapas, or pub-style food.

Innovation Award

The three category finalists will automatically be judged in this Award. The judges will be looking for the most creative use of ingredients and presentation.
